Overview:
- This internship position will be working with both the Visitor Use Management and the Interpretation and Visitor Services teams at Zion National Park.
- Visitor Use Management (VUM) tasks will focus on field collection of data and assisting with park visitor transportation systems and other visitor services. This includes managing data by entering data in spreadsheets and creating graphs and messaging for visitors.
- Interpretation tasks will focus on greeting and orientating park visitors and providing information and interpretation of the park’s cultural and natural resources. Developmental opportunities, including giving interpretive talks, may be available.
- Operations tasks will include learning about the Angels Landing Pilot Program, assisting with permit checks and providing preventative search and rescue messaging.
- Work during evenings, early mornings, weekends and holidays may be required.
Responsibilities:
Interns assist with data collection along trails, at key destinations, and at visitor service locations. Majority of work is conducted outside, potentially in hot temperatures and varying weather conditions during the summer season. Interns provide information to visitors and frequently interact with members of the public. Other duties may include outdoor work requiring bending, lifting, hiking, and there may be some ground and building maintenance, and developed creation and trails projects.
Qualifications:
This position requires excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must enjoy working with individuals and groups with diverse backgrounds. Applicants with these skills, and are pursuing majors in the following fields will be given first consideration: Outdoor, parks, recreation and tourism, Biological Sciences, Education and History and cultural resource fields.
